    FYI – Fueling Your Impression
Your design documents provide the fuel for creating great-looking presentation drawings with Autodesk® Impression. Getting superb output in the Impression rendering pipeline starts with understanding the options available to get the best input into the system. In this class, Ron Palma -- the author of several “AutoCAD®” and “AutoCAD® for Architects” books and a frequent lecturer in Revit® workshops -- will demonstrate the best ways to work with Autodesk Impression and Autodesk design applications. We’ll explore topics such as document preparation, output options, and best practices for streamlining the flow from design to illustration. We’ll also discuss utilities within Autodesk Impression, such as Style Mapping, Block Substitution, and CAD Refresh that permit automated, iterative rendering of CAD works in progress.

    Track: General Design & Drafting

    The Express Tools – AutoCAD® Software’s Built-In Productivity Tools
You may already be well aware of Layer commands such as LayFrz or LayOff to Freeze or Thaw Layers respectively, but have you ever used MoCoRo to Move, Copy, and Rotate objects all in one command? There are many other tools in AutoCAD software’s Express Tools, including Annotation Tools, such as creating custom linetypes or breakline symbols; Block Tools for counting blocks, or even “swapping” blocks with other blocks; File and Data Tools, that push objects from Model Space to Paper Space through a Viewport, keeping their visual scales intact; and more. So whether you are new to Express Tools or a long-time advocate of their value, this class is for you.

    Track: Geospatial

Bridging the GIS and CAD Gap: Connecting Directly with
    Feature Data Object (FDO) Providers

Typically, state and local government agencies and private engineering firms consist of an engineering department responsible for capturing infrastructure data and a GIS department to manage the information. Engineers use the precision of CAD as their preferred tool for creating data, whereas the GIS analyst will typically use GIS software from ESRI to analyze and present the data through maps. Both departments are working with the same data, but essentially using different tools with different formats. This creates a virtual gap in overall workflow and productivity. Join this session to learn how CAD users can improve collaboration among departments by being able to natively access GIS data in ESRI SHP format and ArcSDE all from within AutoCAD Map 3D using the new FDO technology. Access, analyze, and distribute data more effectively with the ability to read and write to various GIS formats natively all from your own CAD environment!

AutoCAD® Map 3D for Improving Environmental Engineering
Today, most environmental consulting organizations employ both CAD and GIS technologies to create and analyze spatial data for watershed planning, water resource management, habitat conservation, and wetland restoration. The ability to integrate the two technologies maximizes the organization’s investment in each without compromising productivity and data integrity. The tools for streamlining the input of field data, its built-in GIS functionality, and inherent dynamic nature are making AutoCAD Map 3D a valuable tool for improving collaboration among environmental engineers, designers, and drafters, as well as GIS analysts using ESRI software. In this session, we’ll learn how to improve existing workflow within environmental consulting firms by leveraging online environmental GIS data to improve initial site assessment, perform environmental impact analysis, and distribute data more effectively. We’ll also examine typical real-world workflows using both Autodesk and ESRI software products for information analysis and distribution.

AutoCAD® Civil 3D® Implementation: Lessons Learned From
    Successful Implementations

AutoCAD Civil 3D is the way of the future, but has your company implemented the program yet? If it hasn’t, is it because implementing Civil 3D seems too big of a project and you aren’t sure where to start? In this class, we’ll look at lessons learned from successful implementations so you can best implement Civil 3D and maximize its time-saving features. We’ll discuss high-level topics and get into detail using specific examples within the program. We’ll look at the planning process, what is involved in creating a Civil 3D template, whether Autodesk Vault is the best option, and how the implementation can be evaluated throughout the process. If your company is about to move to Civil 3D or is having trouble moving to the program, this is the class for you.
