In Revit MEP 2016, one of the new MEP Engineering Enhancements is a new calculation setting called Performance. This has been added to the Calculations dropdown menu to improve performance while working with most duct and pipe systems. When the Calculations parameter is set to Performance, it suppresses the processing of system-level calculations with most duct and pipe systems. When it is set to None, the system still maintains the logical sections in the system.

To improve performance while working with large Fire Protection, Vent, and Other classification system types, a new setting, Volume Only, has been added to the Calculations dropdown. When the Calculations parameter is set to None, the Volume parameter is not computed. When the Calculations parameter is set to Volume Only, the Volume parameter is calculated. Upgraded projects will have the Calculations parameter set to Volume Only for existing systems in which the Calculations parameter was set to None.

These new settings will help you improve model performance when working with large projects.
